Since Oct 3rd, 2011 basic kernel.org started its functioning!
Jonathan Corbet’s article ‘Kernel.org’s road to recovery‘ on lwn.net explains how kernel.org recovered from the compromise.
Its a great relief to know that we can access the kernel.org, associate servers almost as earlier and in process of recovery a good lesson learned.
I am not trying to defend such compromises, but incidents as this certainly keep us more focused on the security front and help inch towards more stronger system.
